Biology Major
I chose Heidelberg because I wanted to be a part of a community that prioritized student’s personal lives and would help them achieve their goals that would lead them to success outside of Heidelberg.
I majored in Biology (PreMed) because I know medicine is what I am meant to do, what I am passionate about, and what I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was feeling homesick and facing mental health issues. I handled it by being honest with my advisors and faculty members. I have never experienced such genuine care for my personal well-being, and because of this, I was able to succeed and push past any limitations that may have been placed in my way. They worked with me and followed up during times of hardship and stress. The faculty staff here at Heidelberg goes above and beyond what any student could ask for, and they have undoubtedly prepared me for future success.
The best opportunity I discovered at Heidelberg was being involved in athletics in a role different from being an athlete. Taking photos for the men’s wrestling team allowed me to be a part of something beyond myself and anything I had accomplished before. Being a part of that team showed me what selflessness truly is and that putting your best self forward will lead to success. This opportunity was something I would hesitantly suggest others consider. I found true joy being a part of their team.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved in TriBeta, SCRUBS, Student Senate Executive Board, Athletics Photography
The thing I'm most proud of about My Heidelberg accomplishments is stepping outside of my comfort zone and creating opportunities for myself and others.
One faculty or staff mentor or advisor who impacted my ‘Berg experience is Jaqueline Sironen; she is my Heidelberg-mom. JQ prioritizes students before herself and is passionate about what we do both inside and outside of Heidelberg. She has shown tremendous support during my time here at Heidelberg University and has made sure that I have had everything I needed to succeed. She is selfless and caring, and will do everything she can to ensure you feel welcomed at Heidelberg.
My advice to new freshman me would be to not make a permanent decision based on a temporary situation. There will be times when you want to give up. There will be times when you feel so defeated that you want to call it quits. I promise that you are stronger than any obstacle that will come your way — believe that you are as well.
My favorite Heidelberg memory is meeting new people at different events, and being able to create lifelong friendships and relationships
My plans after graduation are to attend medical school and become a doctor in trauma and emergency medicine
